According to the National Fire Protection Association, the fourth leading cause of house fires is those of electrical origin. For commercial buildings, it is the fifth. The problem with most electrical fires is that they stem from wiring or appliances that have worked perfectly for years. There is sometimes little-or-no advance warning before the fire. Plus, fires often happen at night which poses a major safety hazard to occupants. With many buildings being unoccupied at night, the fire often gets a large head start before it is discovered and reported, leading to heavy fire losses.
